A Poem by: Maqbola Abdul Halim
Translated by: Sami Khamou
He said ... Do you remember?!0
Do you remember that I
Pleaded with the Jasmine s
Braiding a necklace from the s’ charm
An affection crown with its magnificent splendor
Invoking the jealousy of all lovers
Do you remember how they left their daily business
And hovered around the poem whispering its rhymes
And the harmonious pulses of its sighs that painted the sentiments of our love
It flowed transmitting to the people our feelings
Covered with the morning dress
Travelling
In the horizon of romantic dreamers
Do you know, O’ lord of tender sensation, the day
I left to destiny my dreams
That I hid and detained in my notebooks
Since childhood and kept the secrets
Until I met you in a romantic age
When you dwelt in all my emotions and notebooks
Taking away my agony instantly
I forgot my forced shunning
I love you in spite of blamers
I desired you as a companion
Whose friendship would sweeten my life
Folding away the years of hardship
Remember my sudden visit to your heart’s realm?0
Walking courageously like a knight who left full rein to his soul
To embrace a cloud in the sky
Watering the Jasmine meadows.0
Do you remember, I gathered the pearls from your forehead
Suns ecstasy fell from behind the curtains
I reached it, I collected it
Passion’s handkerchiefs complained the inferno and its blaze
It made its timid resolution
It won’t approach!
It won’t touch the passion anguished cheek
And the spotless forehead dew
It won’t be scorched in the ecstasy seas or rebellion lakes
It won’t approach the fire of reminiscence waves
Do you remember my sweetheart?! do you remember?0
How our words dangled between our lips.0
When our eyes met
Our lips smiled and prospered
And whispered, narrating passion to our hearts and
Sipping love with a flavor of Jasmine
